The advent of Advent

Sunday is the first of December, and therefore the start of advent! Where on earth has this year gone?! It feels no time at all since I was rounding off a brilliant year of celebrations and holidays. Maybe it’s because I’m not quite sure what I’ve achieved this year…but that’s for another day.

Christmas season is always a fun one to do because there is so much going on….both at home and out and about. I love all the lights and the sparkles and the magic of Christmas…not so much the over-commercialisation of things though :/ There is too much tackiness around.

Advent…am I too old to have an advent calendar? Nope 😛 Not in my Mum’s eyes anyway! Although I came up with a different idea this year. When I was little, my Mum embroidered an advent calendar for me, that had matchboxes to cover each day. In each day’s matchbox would be a little chocolate. This has been brought out year after year after year. I never tire of it, despite knowing what some of the pictures will be! This year, it won’t be chocolates inside the boxes…it will be earrings! I have so many Christmas earrings…and I end up wearing maybe one or two pairs. This year will be different. I shall wear a different pair everyday all through advent 🙂

17.12.11 decorating for xmas 004What with photos, earring challenges, and all the other things I should be doing (costume making, rehearsals, Christmas present making, sorting Atodiad’s Christmas decorations….) I shall have a very busy month or so! Talking of Atodiad…Grandpa asked me today to bring down their Christmas stuff from the loft, as we are having Christmas and Boxing Days over there this year, and they would like me to help them decorate. Fair enough. ‘There’s not much there any more’ he says. Ha! Box after box came out of the loft…followed by about six Christmas trees of all sizes…and the ‘pièce de résistance’….a full box of ‘Chocolate novelty Christmas crackers’. Not from last year. Oh no, that’s much too mainstream. Looking at the packaging, I’m guessing at least 10 years…maybe even 20! I don’t want to know what the contents are like…:/ Only in Atodiad!! 😛

And on that note, enjoy the last few days of November 🙂
